Thailand has to be one of the most unique countries in the world. How many countries can you name where you can watch the sun rise and set over the same body of water? On the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand, you can watch the sunset over the gulf, and on the east coast, you can watch the sunrise over the same gulf.
Early mornings are magical in Hua Hin. Fisherman head out to sea in their boats framed by the rising sun over the water. We’ll list five of the best places in town to watch the sunrise. Try a different spot every morning of your holiday in Hua Hin.
Hin Lek Fai Mountain
While Hin Lek Fai Mountain is crowded and busy at sunset, you’re pretty much guaranteed one of the best seats in the house for sunrise on this 160 sixty metres tall mountain.
There are several viewpoints on the mountain. For the best view by far, head to the fifth viewpoint which takes in views of the town, Hua Hin Fishing Pier, Wat Khao Takiap and the ocean. Wat Khao Takiap
Curiously, Wat Khao Takiap also goes by the name “Chopsticks Hill” for some reason. It’s a hill that rises dramatically out of the sand at the southern end of Hua Hin Beach.
You can climb a winding stairway to the top to get a commanding view north along the coast. At sunrise, you also are treated to a view of fishing boats heading out for the day.
We probably should warn you that macaques make their home on the hill, so be sure and leave any food and shiny and dangling jewellery back at your accommodations.
Wat Khao Krai Las
Wat Khao Krai Las has two things going for it. It’s a great place to watch the sunrise over the town, plus it’s an interesting temple to visit because of the beauty of its buildings and statues. It also offers a great place to exercise.
You can hike along the wide concrete pathway up to the top of the hill and take in spectacular 180-degree views of the sunrise in quiet and solitude.
Hua Hin Queen’s Park
Hau Hin Queen's Park is the perfect place for people who want to see the sunrise but aren't ‘morning people’. There are no mountains to climb first thing in the morning. Just walk, cycle or take public transportation to this park on the beach in the middle of town. There are lawns, benches, paths, trees and sweeping, 180-degree views of the beach and coast. It’s a great place to bring a take-out cup of morning coffee and a picnic breakfast and watch the sunrise.
Sapanpla Hua Hin (Hua Hin Fishing Pier)
Sapanpla Hua Hin or Hua Hin Fishing Pier is a long and wide, concrete pier that stretches out into the ocean and offers panoramic views up and down the coast.
Besides the sunrise, you'll be able to watch all the fishermen that moor their boats just off the beach on either side of the pier, getting ready to head out for a day of fishing on the gulf. This is a good place for a leisurely morning stroll while you watch the sunrise. The pier is near the Hua Hin Night Market off Hua Hin Soi 55.
